Erosion

Erosion is the process by which the surface of the Earth gets worn down. Erosin can be caused by elements of Earth such as wind, rain, and ice. These elements wear down rocks, sand, soil, and other natural elements you can find in the outdoors.  Erosion is constantly wearing away at Earth's surface. It takes thousands of years for erosion to take a large effect on the climate. the Grand Canyon, for example. Did it just hapen to pop up overnight? No. It was water running through the rock valleys and carving out the canyon's walls to make the Grand Canyon. Water is the most common erosion agent on the planet.
When we make new buildings, or pave roads and such, we make erosion take place faster. Have you ever ridden by a construction site after it's rained and you see that it is all muddy or dirtier than before it had rained? That's because erosion had taken place. When they were pulling up the ground with their bulldozers, and other things they had pulled up grass and other things whih had kept the soil there. So when it rained after they did all of this, eroion took place at a faster rate than what it normally would have if the grass and other things would have still been there. Erosion effects us by wearing down our homes and creating obstacles for us to go through daily. imagine if you went hiking and there was a huge mountain or mound of dirt you couldn't get over. If you were to come back many years after that, you MAY be able to climb over it. This change is because of erosion. the wind, water, and ice eroded the mountain or dirt away over the many years you were gone and made it smaller. But erosion ca make things harder, too. Have you ever heard of a landslide? Maybe in the phrase "He won by a landslide!" or "It was a landslide win!". The word 'landslide' is used in erosion too. A landslide, is a movement of the land in which soil or rock moves at an alarming rate down a slope of land. This can block our path to work or school and other places that we may need or want to go. This is a way that erosion can make life really difficult. It also has the potential to kill people who get caught in it.

This is a perfect place for a landslide to occour if the slope of the land were to erode oo quickly.
